WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY THE THROTTLE STARTED DROPPING DOWN TO IDLE SPEED AND THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE ONLY MANUAL STEERING LEFT. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STARTED COASTING. PULLED OVER AND STOPPED SHUT OFF THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE CAR STARTED UP AND RAN NORMALLY FOR 10 MILES THAN IT DID IT AGAIN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DECELERATE AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT THEN CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT HE ERRONEOUSLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR BECAUSE IT WAS TOO CLOSE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS FOOT WOULD ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, IF HE FOOT WAS NOT COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SURGE. BOTH INCIDENTS, RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.
