BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER 36 MONTHS OF LEASING A 2002 LINCOLN LS, MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH IT HAVING APPROXIMATELY 28,000 MILES IN SEPTEMBER 2005. IN DECEMBER OF THAT YEAR WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES, MY WIFE HAD A MINOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT WHEN WHILE BRAKING THE CAR FAILED TO STOP. THE BRAKES HAD BEEN SERVICED IN AUGUST FOR A SQUEAL. THERE WAS NO EXCESSIVE WEAR BUT THE ROTORS WERE RE-SURFACED. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THERE HAD BEEN NO OTHER BRAKING PROBLEMS. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 LINCOLN LS. THE CONTACT HEARD A CRACKING AND POPPING NOISE EVERY TIME HE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V359001 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT). THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 125,000. UPDATED 05/07/08 *BF
