DRIVING DOWN THE ROADWAY AT 50 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACTED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THERE WAS NO FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARS, THE ENGINE RAN FINE, JUST NO POWER TO THE WHEELS. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OF THE FAILURE...NO ERRATIC SHIFTING, NOISES, ETC. WE WERE JUST DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, NOT ACCELERATING OR DOING ANYTHING TO STRAIN THE DRIVETRAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A STRIPPED OUTPUT SHAFT ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REMOVED, TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED ALONG WITH THE OUTPUT SHAFT AND SEVERAL SEALS, TRANSMISSION FLUID, ETC. TOTAL COST OF REPAIR WAS $1552. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD FREESTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL SERVICE STATION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
