POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:PARK/NEUTRAL START SWITCH
I STOPPED IN A LEVEL DRIVEWAY, PUT THE CAR IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE IDLING, AND GOT OUT TO UNLOCK A GATE. WHILE I WAS OUTSIDE THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO REVERSE, AND THE CAR DROVE BACKWARD ACROSS THE STREET AND INTO THE NEIGHBOR'S TREE. I MANAGED TO CATCH UP WITH THE CAR THERE AND SWITCH IT OFF. THE BUMPER, LEFT REAR TAILLIGHT AND LEFT REAR FENDER WERE DAMAGED. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS ABLE TO REPEAT WHAT HAD HAPPENED (IE. PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND HAVING IT FALL INTO REVERSE). CHRYSLER REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALER REPAIRED THE DAMAGE AT NO COST AND TIGHTENED THE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE.*AK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUAL FOR THE VEHICLE STATED THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD SHUT OFF WHEN THE KEY FOB WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE IN A RESIDENTIAL GARAGE OVERNIGHT AND THE FOLLOWING DAY, HE FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL POWERED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND FUEL PUMP TO FAIL. THE ENGINE BECAME EXTREMELY HOT AND REMAINED ON EVEN AFTER THERE WAS NO MORE FUEL IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST DUE TO USER ERROR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,093. *TR
