I OWN A 2002 HONDA CIVIC LX WHICH IS NOTORIOUS FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURES. I BECAME PRO ACTIVE ABOUT IT WHEN THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTING STARTED TO SLIP. I HAD IT LOOKED AT AND TESTED SEVERAL TIMES, INCLUDING AN ENTIRE DAY WITH THE HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM. I EVEN SENT A LETTER IN 2009 TO AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.THEY ALL INSISTED IT WAS FINE. ON JULY 8, 2011 WHILE DRIVING ON A NARROW MOUNTAIN ROAD IN THE ROCKIES, THE TRANSMISSION WENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND REPLACED AND REBUILT. I DO HAVE THE OLD PARTS. HONDA, WHEN CONTACTED BASICALLY SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. THIS IS A LONG STANDING PROBLEM AND HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT IT FOR MANY YEARS. DOES NOT SIT WELL WITH ME NOR SHOULD IT FOR ANYONE ELSE THAT WOULD WANT A HONDA. *TR

SERVICE BRAKES
I KEPT HEARING SQUEELING NOISE ON MY BRAKES SO AFTER TAKING IT IN TO HONDA THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED NEW BRAKES. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT HAD 8000 MI ON IT AT AROUND 18000 IS WHEN I KEPT HEARING NOISES THEN WENT AWAY. NOW AT 22000 MI I BROUGHT IT INTO HONDA TO CHECK IT OUT AS OTHER PLACES SAID BRAKES WERE FINE. (MAYBE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE AS THEY KNEW IT WAS A HONDA ISSUE?) I THINK THIS IS PREMATURE WEARING OUT OF MY BRAKES AS BRAKES SHOULD LAST APPROX. 30000 MI NOT ONLY 10000-11000 MILES. I WAS TOLD IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY SO I PAID FOR NEW BRAKES AND KEPT THE OLD PARTS. I'VE READ HONDA HAD A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON EARLIER MODELS AND I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE EXTENDED TO MY YEAR HONDA CIVIC 2010. *TR
