WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH FAILING ON THE 2011 FORD EDGE. DRIVER DOOR WILL CLOSE AND APPEARS TO BE SECURE. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE, THE CAR WILL NOT AUTO LOCK WHEN YOU REACH THE DESIGNATED SPEED AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES. ALL OF THIS RESULTS IN A DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. IT TAKES SLAMMING THE DRIVER DOOR TO THE POINT YOU ARE AFRAID THAT ANOTHER ISSUE WILL ARISE BEFORE YOU CAN GET THE CAR TO RECOGNIZE THE DRIVER DOOR IS CLOSED. I TOOK MY EDGE TO MY FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH REPLACED. AS I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THE TIME THIS PROBLEM STARTED, I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM FORD AS THIS APPEARS TO BE ANOTHER WELL KNOWN, WIDESPREAD ISSUE THAT FORD CHOOSES TO IGNORE INSTEAD OF ISSUING A RECALL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, BURNING OIL FUMES WERE EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WERE NO FAILURES DETECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN WEEKS LATER TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A BROKEN SEAL FROM THE AXLE WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
