SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED IN A NORMAL MANNER. AFTER STOPPING FOR A BRAKE AND PREPARING TO LEAVE THE PARKING AREA, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT AND CHIME ALARM ACTIVATED. UPON EXITING VEHICLE, BRAKE FLUID WAS SEEN POURING TO THE GROUND FROM AN AREA UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. AFTER BEING TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY AND PUT ON THE LIFT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A BRAKE LINE MOUNTED ONTO THE CHASSIS HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. A SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION OF ALL THE BRAKE LINES SHOWED SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION DAMAGE AND ALL WERE REPLACED. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO NORMAL USAGE AFTERWARD WITH NO PROBLEMS NOTED.
