STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS
THE FRAME WAS RUSTED, AND WE WERE AWARE OF RECALLS. 2 WEEKS AGO WE HAD IT INSPECTED AT THE DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT IT. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THE VEHICLE WAS UN-DRIVEABLE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SENT THE INFORMATION TO TOYOTA BUT THE RECALL CLAIM WAS DENIED. THE MECHANIC GAVE US A NUMBER TO CALL TO PLACE A CLAIM. THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD US WE HAD BEEN MAILED A LETTER IN 2011 SAYING THE VEHICLE NEEDED UNDERCOATING. SHE ADMITTED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TOYOTA WAS DOING LEGALLY TO AVOID HAVING TO HONOR THE RECALL CLAIM. SHE ALSO SAID THAT THE UNDERCOATING WOULD HAVE BEEN USELESS SINCE DEFECTIVE STEEL WAS USED TO CONSTRUCT THE FRAME. AGAIN, THE CASE MANAGER TOLD US THE CLAIM WAS BEING DENIED. *TR

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WITHOUT WARNING WHEN DRIVING NORMAL SPEEDS. THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK. BOTH TIMES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT BLOCKED OR IMPEDED. WHEN I SUBSEQUENTLY SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL, THE FIRST TIME THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL, THE SECOND TIME THE ENGINE RACED TO REDLINE SO I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. THEREAFTER, I STARTED THE ENGINE AND IT RACED TO REDLINE, SO I SHUT IT DOWN. THE SECOND TIME I STARTED IT, THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE FIRST TIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED, I THINK THAT HAD BEEN USING CRUISE CONTROL EARLIER IN THE 45 MINUTE DRIVE. THE SECOND TIME, CRUISE CONTROL HAD NEVER BEEN TURNED ON OR ENGAGED AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED IN THE FIRST 2/10 OF A MILE INTO MY DRIVE. THE PEDAL DID NOT GET STUCK AFTER I HAD PRESSED IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. IN BOTH CASES, I WAS DRIVING A CONSTANT 35-45 MPH WHEN THE TRUCK TOOK OFF ON ME. WHEN I SAY IT ACCELERATED, I MEAN PEDAL TO THE METAL ACCELERATION - NOT GRADUAL LIKE WHEN CRUISE CONTROL RESUMES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THEY TESTED IT AND DROVE IT 80 MILES, BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR ANYTHING THAT COULD BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED TOYOTA'S NATIONAL OFFICE, AND THEY SAID THAT IF THE DEALER DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, THEN THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE SHOWN SERIOUS CONCERN FOR THIS DANGEROUS PRODUCT DEFECT. *TR
