ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
MY CAR WAS RUNNING FINE AND DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LIGHT WHEN OFF LATER IN DAY. NEXT DAY - DIED ON BUSY HIGHWAY - RESTARTED AND WOULD GOING GO ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR. NEXT DAY TRYING TO GET TO THE SHOP DIED AND TOOK SEVERAL TIMES TO GET STARTED AND THEN 5 MILES PER HOUR AGAIN. THEY KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PART -- THEY SHOULD HAVE TO FIX NO MATTER THE MILEAGE....IT IS NOTED IN A BULLETIN. *TR

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED ON THE 2006 TOYOTA MATRIX. THE CAR HAD JUST RECEIVED A VERY THOROUGH 30,000 MILE CHECKUP AND THERE WERE NO CAUSES FOR THE FAILURE. THIS FAILURE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND IT ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. THE ECU SPONTANEOUSLY QUIT WHILE IN THE HIGH SPEED LANE, AT 6:30 PM PITCH DARK, IN HEAVY COMMUTER TRAFFIC IN THE BOSTON BELTLINE OF RT 128. THE BRAKES WERE AS HARD AS CONCRETE, AND THE CAR DECELERATED SO FAST THAT I COULD NOT CHANGE LANES AND I WAS LEFT WITH AN ELECTRONICALLY DEAD CAR IN THE HIGH SPEED LANE - AT NIGHT.
