THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY LINCOLN MKZ WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE ON A SLOPE. THE DEALER AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAY THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CANE BE DONE ABOUT IT. ACCORDING TO THEM, THE BRAKE IS DESIGNED TO FUNCTION WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN PARK. THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE FEDERAL REGULATIONS FOR PARKING BRAKES WHICH ARE QUITE CLEAR. THEY STATE THAT EVERY COMBINATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES MUST BE EQUIPPED WITH A PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ADEQUATE TO HOLD THE VEHICLE OR COMBINATION ON ANY GRADE ON WHICH IT IS OPERATED, UNDER ANY CONDITION OF LOADING IN WHICH IT IS FOUND ON A PUBLIC ROAD (FREE OF ICE AND SNOW). THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE TRANSMISSION OR PARK IN THAT DESCRIPTION. THE VEHICLE IS QUITE DANGEROUS. PROPERTY AND PEOPLE WILL BE DAMAGED AND HURT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 LINCOLN MKZ. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO JUMP OVER A CURB AND CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A CEMENT PILLAR. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT BEFORE THE FAILURE, THE ENGINE EXHIBITED A REVING SOUND BUT THE CONTACT THOUGHT THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL COLLISION SPECIALIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,500.
