TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LINCOLN AVIATOR. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE DRIVER HEARD A LOUD ROARING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REBUILT THE REAR END PINION AND BEARINGS, WHICH ONLY REMEDIED THE FAILURE FOR TEN MONTHS. WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARINGS. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE NOISE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT DID NOT HEAR THE SOUND; THEREFORE, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT EXPERIENCE THE SAME DEFECT SEVERAL TIMES. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE APPEARED TO BE DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,270 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,475. THE CLOCKSPRING WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 10/23/09 UPDATED 01/28/10. |

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT ANY SPEED, THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND A DEALER WHO BOTH DETERMINED THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE MASTER CYLINDER PART NEEDED FOR REPAIR WAS ON BACK ORDER AND NOT AVAILABLE AT ANY AREA DEALERSHIPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. |
