VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED QUICKLY. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL, HOWEVER IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 65 MPH, DESPITE MY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AS I WAS ON A BUSY MAIN ROAD WITH MULTIPLE STOP LIGHTS, I HAD TO RIDE THE SHOULDER AND DRIVE THROUGH TWO STOPLIGHTS (APPROXIMATELY 0.25 MILE) BEFORE FORCING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT WEEK. MY LOCAL GARAGE DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND STATED THAT THE PROBLEM INVOLVED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE COMING LOOSE. THEY PERFORMED A "TEMPORARY FIX" AND STATED THAT IT WOULD NEED A LOT MORE WORK. ALTHOUGH THE FIX HAS DIMINISHED THE FREQUENCY AND INTENSITY OF THE OCCURRENCES, THE CAR STILL ACCELERATES RANDOMLY AT TIMES. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 50 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE SPEED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO AFTER THE PEDAL GOT STUCK. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE, THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THEIR FOOT TO PULL THE PEDAL UP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 10,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
