TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD RANGER EXTENDED CAB XLT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT A NUT HAD DETACHED FROM THE WHEEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 3,000. UPDATED 03/16/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY JERKED ITSELF OUT OF HIS HANDS AND PULLED TO THE RIGHT. THE CONSUMER ENDED UP IN A MUDDY DITCH WHERE HE SLID TO A STOP AGAINST A FENCE AND SOME SMALL TREES. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS NO COTTER PIN THAT SAFE TIED THE NUT THAT HELD THE WHEEL ON THE SPINDLE. UPDATED 04/20/12

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I NOTICED I DID NOT HAVE PASSING GEAR SO I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. CONSIDERING THAT YOU HAVE HAD REPORTS ON THIS PROBLEM SINCE 1990 (RE:ODI ID:402614) AND CONSIDERING THAT I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND KILLED SOMEONE AND MYSELF, I THINK FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND COMPENSTE ME FOR THE NEW THROTTLE BOX I HAD INSTALLED (295.56). BY THE WAY, THE MECHANIC WHO TESTED MY TRUCK SAID HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DIE BECAUSE HE HAD A HARD TIME STOPPING THE TRUCK EVEN AFTER BEING BRIEFED ABOUT THE PROBLEM.*AK
