I WAS LEFT STRANDED ON THE 695 BALTIMORE BELTWAY AFTER MY VEHICLE DISPLAYED AN OVER-HEATING SIGNAL IN MY DASH. A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND A RED "ENGINE OVERHEATED" SIGNAL APPEARED ON MY DASH AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE LESS THAN 5 MILES AN HOUR TO MOVE TO SAFETY (IN THE MIDST OF MANY CARS FLYING BY ME DOING WELL OVER 65 MPH). VERY SCARY SITUATION. THE OTHER SCARY SITUATION IS THAT I AM 3,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE AND I FEEL THAT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NOT THE ONLY REPORTED INCIDENT OF THIS TYPE, BMW SHOULD REPAIR THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO ME. SEAT BELTS:FRONT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW X5 DIESEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT AND TWIST WHEN SECURING THE SEAT BELT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE WITHOUT THE SEAT BELT SECURED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS FOR FOUR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000. UPDATED 2/23/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED OVER TIME, HE WAS UNABLE TO USE THE SEAT BELT BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE PILLAR. BMW INFORMED THE CONSUMER THEY WOULD COVER FIFTY PERCENT OF THE COST, BECAUSE IT WAS HIS FAULT THE SEAT BELT WAS TWISTING DUE TO HIM NOT RELEASING IT PROPERLY. UPDATED 04/28/11*JB
